#ManitobansSteppingUp

Manitobans for Human Rights (MHR) is excited to announce the 5th annual Torch of Dignity Relay, with this year’s theme being “Manitobans Stepping-up for Human Rights and Human Dignity”. MHR has reimagined this year’s Torch to be held as an online event, featuring our “Stepping-Up” social media campaign running from August 3-22, 2020, and our Facebook Live Stream event on August 23, 2020. We are seeking 100 Manitobans to virtually pass the torch in support of the exemplary work being done to support human rights and human dignity throughout the province.

This year has brought with it some truly unprecedented circumstances. Despite these trying times, Manitobans have been stepping up in a myriad of ways, including increasing donations to local food banks during the COVID-19 pandemic and addressing systemic racism against BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of colour) communities both at home and abroad. We invite you to contribute to this historic relay by sharing why your organization supports human rights and human dignity through your statements, stories, and words of encouragement for Manitobans. This will include,

1. Participating in our #ManitobansSteppingUp social media campaign by taking a photo/video alongside the Torch of Dignity and answering the question “why am I stepping up for human rights and human dignity?”

2. Tuning in to our Facebook Live event on August 23, 2020, featuring greetings from three levels of government, guest speakers, entertainment, and the debut of our virtual torch relay video

Our generous supporters make our work possible. We kindly invite relay participants to consider contributing $25 to our campaign by joining our annual membership program. We also offer exciting sponsorship and donation opportunities for those who would like to support this year’s event and help with the on-going work of Manitobans for Human Rights and human rights education in our province.
